serial #17660, 30 WCF, 22" tapered round barrel with full magazine and a bright near excellent bore with a tiny amount of frosting beginning in some of the grooves. This is a rare second year production full deluxe lightweight short rifle. The barrel and magazine retain about 75% evenly thinning original blue blending with a smooth gray brown patina. The action retains about 70% original blue finish overall with loss being mostly on the top and bottom of action from being carried. There is some thinning on the sides and a superficial scratch or two. The hammer and lever show a fair amount of original color case-hardened finish remaining which is faded but still visible. The checkered walnut pistolgrip buttstock and original 8 3/8" long short rifle forend are of beautifully figured walnut and rate very good with 85% original extra finish on the buttstock and perhaps 50% on the forend with loss being due to honest carry wear. The checkering remains quite strong with only a little light wear and there are tiny chips at the rear of the top tang, upper right tang at action and lower left tang at action; again, all small and very minor. The left side of the tang, inside of buttplate and end grain of buttstock all bear matching assembly number "3427" with the tang also bearing the wood grade "XX". The rifle is sighted with a beaded blade front, single standing a two folding leaf express rear and a Lyman 21 receiver sight. A very rare and highly desirable deluxe 1894 short rifle.
