Description Update (3/15/17): 1/3" chip at comb and 3/4" chip upper left of forend

serial #70983, 38-40, 24" part round part octagon barrel with button magazine and a near very good bore that shows some scattered light pitting. This rifle features several special order options including part octagon barrel, shorter than standard magazine, nickel action and trim, shotgun buttplate and sights. The barrel retains 90% evenly thinning original blue finish with markings remaining crisp and clean. The action retains about 90% original nickel plated finish with loss due to even light flaking and with those areas taking on a pleasing smooth brown patina. The nosecap retains about 95% original nickel plated finish and the smooth steel shotgun buttplate bears an even smooth gray patina. The plain walnut buttstock and forend rate very good plus with a good deal of original finish remaining and with just normal light handling marks. The rifle is nicely sighted with a Beach combination front, standard sporting rear and a graduated folding tang mounted peepsight. The rifle comes with a records request form from Cody which reads as follows: Rifle, 38, 1/2 octagon, 1/2 Nickel - nickel trim?, graduated peep and Beach, received in the warehouse on April 28, 1881 and shipped the same day. Winchester rifles with special finishes are quite rare and desirable. This is a very fine special order 1873 rifle. (18087-112) {ANTIQUE} [Kenneth Fry Collection] (3500/5500) SOLD FOR $4,025.00
