serial #3594, 10 ga., 28" barrels are choked .003" and .008" and 30" barrels choked .019" and .019". Both sets of barrels are of magnificent Bernard twist steel and all bores are bright and excellent. This shotgun is virtually identical to a Prussian Daly, the barrels bear the crossed pistol mark of H.A. Lindner of Suhl an this gun came here at least as a barreled action and perhaps a finished product. The quality and condition are superb. Each of the barrel ribs feature Lindner's distinctive hand matting with open fields on the ribs being engraved "WM. R. SCHAEFER & SON BOSTON Superior Quality". The action features lovely tight scroll engraving in about 75% coverage. The triggerguard and top lever are also engraved as are the doll's head rib extensions and barrels and there is a geometric border around the circumference of barrel breeches. The shotgun was made with individual forends for each set of barrels and the forend metal is engraved in tight scroll and geometric patterns. The condition of the gun is fabulous with both sets of barrels showing vivid Bernard damascus pattern their entire lengths. The action retains about 95% original color case-hardened finish which has softened mostly on the belly with more contrast on the sides. The belly still shows subtle color with the balance faded to a German silver color. The checkered round knob pistolgrip and both splinter forends are of beautifully figured French walnut and rate excellent retaining 95% original finish and with crisp original checkering. Both forends have lovely horn inlaid tips and the shotgun features a 14 1/8" length of pull over its 1/2" checkered horn buttplate which has just very light moth damage on some of the edges; drops are 1 7/8" and 3 3/8". The shotgun comes in its original leather luggage style case with Schaefer label and purple baize lining. The lid of the case is embossed with the name "N.C. NASH" while the silver oval monogram plate in toeline of stock has full border engraving and a fancy "N" initial. Nathaniel Cushing Nash was a wealthy resident of Boston and heir to the Nash Sugar fortune. He was "deeply interested in shooting, yachting, fishing and hunting".The condition of the case is excellent.
